The 1FUTURE Project successfully conducted three training sections at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKIM), bringing together academic staff and professionals from various Western Balkan higher education institutions (HEIs). Each of the training visits lasted 5 days. These training visits provided a platform for participants to enhance their expertise in sustainable urban development, energy efficiency, and circular economy practices.
Key Highlights:
First Training Visit (September 16–20, 2024). Participants from CEPS Kiseljak engaged in lectures on energy-efficient building design, renovation of modernist buildings, and passive house standards. A significant part of the visit included participation in the Safe Society Conference in Dojran, North Macedonia, which focused on resilience and sustainable development strategies.
Second Training Visit (September 30–October 4, 2024). This session hosted participants from the University of Montenegro (UOM) and included in-depth lectures on urban planning, energy efficiency, and cultural heritage preservation. The training introduced nano-materials for energy-efficient renovations and explored circular economy principles in architecture. The visit concluded with a networking event at Scientific conference dedicated to the 75. Anniversary of Faculty of Civil Engineering, allowing for professional.
Third Training Visit (November 18–22, 2024). Bringing together academics from Universities in Tirana and Tuzla, this training focused on investment project management, passive house standards, and EU-aligned energy policies. A guided tour of culturally significant buildings in Skopje showed the challenges of integrating sustainability into urban heritage conservation.
These visits were funded by the European Union as part of the 1FUTURE project, which aims to foster climate resilience and knowledge transfer in the Western Balkans and EU. The program not only provided cutting-edge research insights but also strengthened cross-border academic collaboration among regional universities.
