On 19–20 March 2025, the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tirana welcomed Associate Professor Marcus Abrahamsson from Lund University for a two-day academic engagement as part of the 1FUTURE – jOiNEd For sUsTainability project, co-funded by the European Union.
The event brought together students from the Master of Science in Risk Management and the Master of Professional in Finance, offering them an opportunity to deepen their understanding of resilience and preparedness through an international lens.
The first day, March 19, included a lecture titled “Operationalising Societal Resilience”, during which Prof. Abrahamsson presented a structured framework aimed at embedding resilience into policy, planning, and organizational processes. Using real-life case studies, the lecture explored key concepts such as anticipation, adaptation, learning, and monitoring within disaster risk management systems. The framework also emphasized the role of formal and informal institutions, knowledge and skills, and values that support resilience across different levels.
On March 20, the second session titled “Preparedness & Planning Simulation Exercises” took a more interactive approach. Prof. Abrahamsson facilitated a session focused on simulation-based learning, introducing tools and methods that simulate real-world disaster scenarios. This session served as the starting point for a simulation game that will be co-developed with students of the MSc in Risk Management during their second semester. The initiative aims to strengthen their decision-making capacities and preparedness planning through hands-on learning.
This two-day lecture series illustrates 1FUTURE’s commitment to fostering climate-resilient communities by investing in future professionals, cross-border academic cooperation, and practical educational tools that bridge theory and practice.
