Students from the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality at the University of Montenegro had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of sustainable tourism during a two-day lecture series held on November 6-7, 2024, in Kotor. The lectures, organized as part of the 1FUTURE project, were delivered by lecturer Franziska Rottig from Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE).
On the first day, Prof. Rottig introduced students to the importance of sustainable tourism, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Global Code of Ethics, with a particular focus on the role of the private sector in promoting responsible tourism..
The second day focused on the growing phenomenon of voluntourism, exploring both its benefits and ethical challenges. Prof. Rottig engaged students in a discussion on how responsible volunteering initiatives can contribute to sustainable development while ensuring positive impacts on local communities.
Prof. Franziska Rottig has been a lecturer at HNEE since 2021, where she mentors students, supervises projects and master’s theses in the Sustainable Tourism Management program, and leads scientific research at the Center for Sustainable Tourism (ZENAT).
